Chelsea Bonagura, soprano

A native of Rochester, New York, Chelsea Bonagura’s voice has been described as “beautifully warm and rich.” She has performed with regional companies including Opera Roanoke and Greensboro Opera Company. Performance highlights include First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Adina (L’Elisir d’amore), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Monica (The Medium), La Princesse (L’Enfant et les Sortilèges), and Geraldine (A Hand of Bridge). Ms. Bonagura created the roles of Princesa and Bambina in Car Crash Opera, and Mei in A Dream of Flight, two newly composed operas written by Michaela Eremiasova and Jairo Duarte-Lopez, and Sarana Chou, respectively. She placed Second in the Rosen-Schaffel Competition in 2013 and in 2011 placed Second in the Opera Guild of Charlotte Voice Competition. Chelsea Bonagura

Ms. Bonagura has been a soprano soloist in numerous concert works including Bach’s Magnificat in D with members of the New Jersey Philharmonic Orchestra, Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, Pergolesi’s Magnificat in C Major, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio BWV 248, and Barber’s Prayers of Kierkegaard performed at the Stevens Center of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Ms. Bonagura received her Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from the Eastman School of Music and her Masters of Music in Voice Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in the studio of Dr. Carla LeFevre. In 2013, Ms. Bonagura participated in acclaimed soprano Martina Arroyo’s Prelude to Performance program in New York City. She has received additional music and language training at the “International Vocal Arts Institute” (Tel Aviv, Israel), “Oberlin in Italy” (Arezzo, Italy), L’Université Paris Sorbonne- Paris IV (Paris, France), and the Goethe Institute in Berlin, Germany.
