The Winston-Salem Symphony and Festival Ballet tell Prokofiev’s timeless tale about a brave boy, his grandpa, and their quirky animal companions. Each character is represented by a different instrument and melody, from the bird’s flourishing flute to the grandpa’s grumpy bassoon, creating a classic that listeners of all ages will remember for the rest of their lives.

This concert also features the world premiere performance of Viet Cuong’s The Wild Woods, composed as a prologue to Prokofiev’s work, setting the scene from the Grandfather’s point of view.

Tickets: $18 Adults / $7 Children

Plus tax
Student Rush: $5.00 at the door, 1 hour before the concert.

Paul Brown

Paul Brown’s voice is familiar to thousands of Piedmont Triad area residents and to millions of radio listeners worldwide. A broadcast news reporter, anchor, editor and executive, he retired from NPR in 2013, closing out his career there as top-of-hour morning world newscaster. He returned from Washington to Winston-Salem, where before his NPR days he held several posts at NPR member station WFDD at Wake Forest University. He managed field recording of classical music, hosted and produced WFDD’s classical music concert program Piedmont Showcase, started WFDD’s news department, served as the station’s program director, and produced the Across the Blue Ridge traditional music program. He is currently a freelance journalist and journalism instructor, music teacher, performer and presenter.

Hélène Grimaud and her Wolves

World-renowned concert pianist, Hélène Grimaud, has established herself not only on the concert stage but on the conservationist “stage” as well. This video excerpt portrays her love for wolves and her dedication to the Wolf Conservation Center which she founded in 1999 in South Salem, New York, about two hours north of Manhattan. Interviewed by Alexis Bloom for the Talbot Players / PBS Arts.
