WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (MAY 5, 2014) –The Winston-Salem Symphony, Robert Moody, Music Director, announces that the Encore Society (the Volunteer Society of the Winston-Salem Symphony) has named Diane Shelton as the 2013-2014 Virginia Dossinger Volunteer of the Year Award recipient. This award is given annually to a member of the Encore Society who best exemplifies the spirit of volunteer support of the Symphony.

Shelton was nominated by her fellow Encore members for her involvement with the Discovery Concerts for Kids series during the 2013-2014 season. In addition, she was instrumental in the decoration and planning for the inaugural “Carolina Christmas Spectacular!” concert series, which debuted in late November and early December of 2013. She also assisted in numerous other ways. Throughout the season, Shelton contributed nearly 65 volunteer hours and filled 22 different volunteer positions.

“Diane Shelton has been a tireless volunteer for the symphony this season,” said Merritt Vale, President and CEO of the Symphony. “No task was too small or too large. She helped with everything from securing donations to planning and helping with logistics. Her enthusiasm and energy are greatly appreciated. Our volunteers are invaluable to us.
