The sensational NC-based folk and bluegrass duo lighting a Wildfire at MerleFest, Telluride, Newport, and on Austin City Limits joins Symphony members at Winston-Salem’s hippest new venue for a one-night-only engagement.
Symphony Unbound is a break from the traditions and norms of classical music. The Winston-Salem Symphony is leading the charge by taking music out of the concert hall and into the community while joining forces with some of hottest up-and-coming acts in various genres. The first installment of this will feature members of the Winston-Salem Symphony alongside Chapel Hill’s Mandolin Orange in Winston-Salem’s cutting-edge music venue, The Ramkat. The evening will start with Symphony musicians performing Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring in its original setting for 13 instruments— an iconic, instantly-recognizable piece audience members are sure to enjoy. Afterwards, the musicians will join the audience for a drink while Mandolin Orange takes the stage to play some of their most well-known tunes. To round out the evening, Symphony musicians will join Mandolin Orange for some of the band’s favorite songs, featuring orchestral arrangements by renowned composer and guitar guru, D. J. Sparr. This evening of music and fellowship will offer a truly unique musical experience.
Released Sept. 30, 2016 on Yep Roc Records, Blindfaller builds on the acclaim of Mandolin Orange’s breakthrough debut on the label, 2013’s This Side of Jordan, and its follow-up, last year’s Such Jubilee. Since then they’ve steadily picked up speed and fans they’ve earned from long stretches on the road, including appearances at Austin City Limits, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Newport Folk Festival, and Pickathon.
