This concert is expected to last one hour and forty minutes, with one fifteen-minute intermission.
Michelle Merrill takes the podium for her debut concert as Music Director, leading the Winston-Salem Symphony through a captivating program celebrating Bernstein and Brahms.
Experience the mesmerizing artistry of violinist Kristin Lee as the rising star takes center stage to perform Brahms’s timeless Violin Concerto. The evening reaches its pinnacle as you are swept away by the iconic rhythms and electrifying energy of Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. Opening the program is Dvořák’s Carnival Overture, a boisterous and festive work fitting this celebratory occasion.

What will my view be like?
While Reynolds Auditorium’s sightlines and sound are best enjoyed in the Mezzanine, Orchestra-level seating also offers superb viewing and sound, especially in rows F through O. Please bear in mind that Reynolds Auditorium is a historic venue; there is no elevator, thus the Mezzanine and Balcony levels are only accessed via stairs. Accessible seating is available on the Orchestra level at the rear of the house and along the outside left and right.

After a two-year, national search, the Winston-Salem Symphony is thrilled to announce the appointment of Michelle Merrill as its new Music Director. Merrill has inspired audiences nationwide with her sharply detailed and vibrant performances.
Kristin Lee
Violin
A recipient of the 2015 Avery Fisher Career Grant, as well as a top prizewinner of the 2012 Walter W. Naumburg Competition and the Astral Artists’ 2010 National Auditions, Kristin Lee is a violinist of remarkable versatility and impeccable technique who enjoys a vibrant career as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and educator.
