General Parking

Upper & Lower Parking Lots
General parking for all other patrons.

Directions:
Enter via the Upper Parking Lot directly off N. Hawthorne Road. If this lot is full or you would like to park closer to the Auditorium, continue through the Upper Parking Lot to the Lower Parking Lot at the bottom of the hill. If you are on N. Hawthorne Road approaching from the north, the lots will be on your left. If you are approaching from the south, you will see the main campus entrance on your right BEFORE the entrance to the Upper Parking Lot.

Please note: If you do not have a valid accessible parking pass and have no other mobility/accessibility issues, please park in these lots to ensure that those who need to park closer to the Auditorium are able to do so. Also note that the nearest spaces in the upper lot must be reserved for musicians with large instruments (harp, cello, double bass); these spaces will be marked with signage.

Locating the Entrance (after parking)

If you park in the Rear Accessiible Parking or the Reserved (permit-only) Lot, please use the appropriate walkways around the Auditorium to the entrance located on the east side of the building; it will feel like you are walking around the back of the building, and this is correct. If you are unsure upon your arrival, just follow the crowd.

There are two walkways from the Lower Parking Lot that will lead you to the Auditorium Entrance:

If you have no mobility issues and would like the convenience of avoiding busy streets while others are parking, there is a walkway at the eastern end of the lower lot. Follow the sidewalk next to the brick wall that will lead you up the hill to a set of brick stairways; either side will take you up to the Auditorium entrance. Please watch your step as you arrive at the top of the stairs.

If you are concerned about getting up the hill, we recommend you use the walkway closest to the Reserved Lot. This stairway is much less steep than those located at the eastern end of the Lower Parking Lot – there is also a handrail.

When approaching the Auditorium portico, there are a few steps leading up to the doors that do not have a handrail. Please use the ramp to the right (which has a handrail) if you are not comfortable going up the steps alone.

Please note: R.J. Reynolds Memorial Auditorium is 100 years old – please be mindful that some areas are showing wear and tear from a century of concerts and crowds. Please also watch your step as you reach the portico.

Exiting Campus Post-Performance

When leaving the Upper & Lower Parking Lots, please follow the signs and exit to the RIGHT only. The parking lots can become congested and we would like to get you home as quickly and safely as possible. If your route is southbound, please turn right and go around the block.
