About TAMO
The Triad Area Medical Orchestra (TAMO) was co-founded in 2015 by Lucy Lan, a medical student from the Wake Forest School of Medicine, and Christopher James Lees, the current resident conductor of the Charlotte Symphony. TAMO is indebted to their tireless effort in making their vision a reality. Following Christopher Lees’ tenure, the orchestra has been led by conductors Daniel Bukin, Emily Malamud, Alex AsKew, and is currently conducted by Tim Heath.
The orchestra’s mission is to enable dedicated medical professionals from the Piedmont Triad to share their passion for music. Since its first season, TAMO has more than doubled its number of participants and performs twice annually.
Winston-Salem Symphony
Partnership
Medicine and music go hand-in-hand. Our orchestra, while providing a creative outlet for our members, also provides a link to the medical community through musicianship and learning. Amidst a pandemic, TAMO realized that this link closely aligns with the core premise of the Winston-Salem Symphony, which envisions a community where live music connects people from all walks of life to inspire a more vibrant and creative region. As an affiliate ensemble of the Winston-Salem Symphony, our partnership ensures the strength of that inspiration for years to come.
Who Can Join TAMO?
TAMO is composed of healthcare and other professionals, including physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and allied health professionals. We also have musicians in all stages of medical education, from those interested in pursuing the medical field, to current medical students, residents, and fellows, to professors. We recognize that health care and medicine depends on people from all disciplines and walks of life, and that one does not have to be a medical professional to have a passion and appreciation for music and the healing art of medicine. Thus, we invite non-medical professionals to join.
Are you a musician who is interested in joining? Are you interested in learning about and attending future performances? If so, contact us at tamo@wssymphony.org
