Smart Gifts: Stocks, DAFs and QCD/IRA Gifts

Many donors are considering non-cash giving options that support the Symphony’s mission and provide tax benefits.

Your donation of appreciated stock can offer you tax benefits.  Download this stock donation form for stock transfer instructions.

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a named charitable giving account set up by you under a public charity, most often a sponsoring financial or community institution. The Symphony does accept Donor Advised Fund (DAF) contributions; however, donating through a DAF may limit the donor benefits that you can receive. Because a maximum tax deduction is received when funds are contributed to a DAF, a donor cannot legally receive any benefits with a substantial fair market value for a gift made from a DAF. The Winston-Salem Symphony will provide any relevant benefits in your appropriate giving circle that have insubstantial or no fair market value.

For donors 70 ½ years old or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a smart way to support your philanthropic interests. QCDs count towards satisfying an individual’s Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year, which is the minimum amount that an individual must withdraw from their IRA each year once they reach the young age of 73.

Seek assistance from your IRA administrator by providing them with the Symphony’s EIN number: 56-0692826. You would be wise to request that your name be included on the check from your financial institution.

A vibrant culture and the enduring presence of music in our community are sustained by the generosity of our members. Learn how your planned gift to the Winston-Salem Symphony can provide multiple benefits.
