
Claire Kostic
Oboe
Claire Kostic is a vibrant performer and teacher serving as principal oboe in the Winston Salem Symphony since 2024. Claire has been invited to play with groups such as The Atlanta Symphony, Houston Grand Opera Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, The Florida Orchestra and many more. Since summer 2019, she also serves as principal oboe in Orquesta Sinfonica de Minería in Mexico City under the direction of Carlos Miguel Prieto. With Minería, she attended the Bravo! Vail music festival and toured the United States from coast to coast, bringing the orchestra’s dynamic repertoire to audiences across the country.
Ms. Kostic completed her Masters of Music and Artist’s diploma at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music with Robert Atherholt. She is also a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music under the tutelage of Frank Rosenwein, principal oboe of the Cleveland Orchestra. Her additional studies were at the Juilliard Pre-College Division where she studied with the late Richard Dallessio. When not making reeds, Claire enjoys watching basketball, especially Caitlin Clark!

Five Questions with Claire
What are your favorite pieces to perform, and why?
My favorite music of all time to perform are Mozart piano concerti. I think the delicate wind writing is delicious and you can always find new way to interpret them!
What are you looking forward to playing in the 25|26 Season?
I’ve always wanted to play Copland 3 so I’m excited to play it for the first time! I also played the Marsalis violin concerto with the Charleston symphony and I feel so lucky I get to do it again! It’s absolutely brilliant.
What’s in your Spotify/YouTube/Apple Music/etc playlist?
Cleveland orchestra recordings- Always. Beethoven, Bad Bunny, Billy Joel, Bill Evans and The Bee Gees.
Who are your musical heroes?
Larry Rachleff and Richard Dallessio.
Who are your non-music-related heroes?
I am so inspired by athletes, especially women in sports! I love Caitlin Clark, and Simone Biles.
