John Buffett, baritone

Baritone John Buffett, praised by the Salt Lake Tribune for his “warm tone and ringing top notes,” has sung with the symphonies of Utah, San Antonio, and Syracuse, the Rochester Philharmonic, Apollo’s Fire, the Mark Morris Dance Group, Seraphic Fire, The Santa Fe Desert Chorale, Bach Collegium San Diego, the Charlotte Bach Festival, the Oregon Bach Festival, the LA Master Chorale, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, and Ars Lyrica.

Recent engagements include both Bach passions, Bach’s B minor mass and Cantata 153, Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610, the Mozart and Fauré Requiems, Handel’s Messiah, and Charpentier’s Petite Pastoral and Te Deum. Equally as comfortable on the operatic stage, he has sung with the Opera Companies of Utah, Sarasota, and Memphis, Utah Festival Opera, the Ohio Light Opera and Eastman Opera Theater, singing the roles of Dandini in La Cenerentola, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Marullo in Rigoletto, Wagner in Faust, Golaud in Pelleas e Melisande and Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro. John has worked with conductors including Robert Tweten, Patrick Dupré Quigley, Gustavo Dudamel, Franz Welser-Möst, Josh Habermann, Jeannette Sorrell, Craig Jessop, Victor DeRenzi, Grant Gershon, Barbara Day Turner, Scott Allen Jarrett, Matthew Halls, and Paul O’Dette. Other career highlights include solo appearances at the Tanglewood Music Festival, the Boston Early Music Festival, the Aspen Music Festival and the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center. Mr. Buffett, currently on faculty at CSU Long Beach, received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Eastman School of Music. Upcoming concerts include engagements with Bach Collegium San Diego, Seraphic Fire, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Long Beach Camarata, Pacific Chorale, LA Master Chorale and the Santa Fe Desert Chorale.
