Position Summary: The Winston-Salem Symphony (WSS) P.L.A.Y. Music (Piedmont Learning Academy for Youth) Lead Teaching Artist (TA) provides high-quality string or percussion instruction to P.L.A.Y. Music students and leads a classroom of string or percussion students with varying ability levels. Instructional efforts are informed by established curriculum and pedagogy. They lead instruction between September and May, in alignment with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System’s calendar and may also have the opportunity to teach or support P.L.A.Y. Music summer programming, including summer camps or intensives, as offered.

Lead TAs are supported by an Assistant TA and a Site Coordinator who assists with administrative matters. They work closely with the P.L.A.Y. Music Program Director, Senior Lead TAs, fellow Lead TAs, Assistant TAs, and Site Coordinators to ensure alignment across all P.L.A.Y. Music Teams and to provide holistic support to each student, upholding the El Sistema philosophy of musical excellence, social inclusion, and strong family and community engagement.

Compensation: $55.00 per service hour

Organization Description: The Winston-Salem Symphony (WSS) is in its 80th season as one of the Southeast’s most highly regarded regional per-service orchestras. Its performance season historically includes masterworks classical concerts, pop guest artists and themes, educational and family concerts, and more.

Organization Location: Winston-Salem, North Carolina
